2016: ‘Experience dining’ got bigger and bigger!
As predicted, the UK has seen a rise in Michelin starred chefs embracing the humble pub as a great way to showcase their skills and push the boundaries with their menus. There has been a big increased in award winning and Michelin starred pubs making waves in the dining out sector – click here for this year’s 18 new additions to the Michelin guide, not all of them pubs, but some really are focusing on delivering amazing food in a more relaxed setting.
2016 has seen the ‘experience junkie’ come to the fore too. No longer is eating out just about food, for a huge number of people it’s equally about ‘an experience’. A Propel article earlier in the year said 67% of consumers want things like festivals, street food markets, ticketed indoor events and pop-up bars rather than just a night out at a bar or pub.
Great examples of this are Tom Kerridge’s Pop-Up Picture House and the Wilderness Festival that had some truly awesome food offerings in what can only be described as a unique and fun-filled weekend. It was a highlight of the year for me and will continue to be for the coming years.
