Are You Ready For The Calorie Counters?
I heard recently that the government is planning to launch a childhood obesity campaign, and just last month, calls came for pubs, restaurants and cinema chains with more than 20 sites to start labelling their menus with calorie content on both food and drink.
The Local Government Association (who represent more than 370 British councils) suggested that consumers should be encouraged to make more informed food choices in a bid to curb the obesity crisis facing modern Britain.
With Jamie Oliver pushing for the government to implement a 20% tax on sugary foods and drinks and the NHS also announcing it will be adding a levy to all such foods sold in its cafes and vending machines by 2020 - How long will it be before every food seller in the UK needs to list calorie content?
What effect do you think this will have on your business?
Some consumers really are very calorie conscious, but will it spoil the dining-out experience… I'd love to hear your thoughts.
P.S. Have you seen this article? Already Jamie's tax has raised £50k!
