How can I make data entry easier?

The system comes pre-loaded with 600 standard catering kitchen ingredients (fruit and veg, fish, meat, dry goods, dairy, breads and basic frozen) You can easily customise these into ‘your’ ingredients from your suppliers.

1. Search the ingredient in store cupboard
2. Click the pencil icon
3. Change the supplier name or create a new supplier
4. Edit the purchase price and/or purchase unit/qty

If you buy the same ingredient from more than one supplier simply click on the double book icon. This makes an exact copy of ingredients, recipes and dish specs. Simply edit the detail you need to change. The copied ingredient will take the same nutritional data as the original ingredient so no need to enter this.

I’m trying to enter a new ingredient in the store cupboard but I can’t see how to save it?

CaterCost requires you to link every purchased item to nutritional data before it will save an ingredient. You only need do this once and can edit it at any time. Without this compulsory action items could slip through the net with zero value – making all recipes and dishes containing that item nul and void

To link a new ingredient to nutritional data click the link to nutritional data green button ( this is greyed out until you have entered purchase details. Either search for an ingredient’s nutritional composition in the top search box that appears (there are 15,000 items in the database from the two main recognised sources -McCance anfd Widdowson and USDA data bases) or opt to edit your own – this option will bring up editable fields for Kcals, Fat, Carb, Protein and Salt for you to enter from the manufacturers details.

What does ‘enter a conversion’ mean?

At CaterCost we understand that not all things come in neat little parcels. You may by a 20 kilo sack of onions but want to use 4 onions in a recipe – to save converting every time to a weight in kilo or lb simply enter a standard conversion against a store cupboard ingredient

For example define a standard onion as 57g and you will be able to enter it into you recipes as an onion and not need to recall the standard weight.

This function is great for fillets of meat and fish that come in various sizes – 1 small fillet is between 120 and 130g say and 1 large fillet is between 200 and 245g.

How do I enter a price increase?

In your store cupboard search the ingredient you want to edit, click the pencil icon and simple overwrite the existing price with the new price. This will now flow through to every sub recipe, every dish and every menu. If it is sufficient to tip it under your target GP that dish will flash up in alerts.
